1846, "Map of the United States, and Texas." Charles Copley, New York. Engraved map (22-3/4" wide x 17 3/4" high on 24-1/2" x 19-1/2" page). Scale not stated. Inset maps, at right: (1) Vicinity of Boston; (2) Vicinity of New York; (3) Vicinity of Philadelphia. This large map of the Republic of Texas and United States shows all major cities existing in the early years of the Republic. One note on the map states: "This desert is traversed by immense herds of Buffaloes and inhabited by roaming tribes of Indians." Map shows a large, expansive Indian Territory and Mandan District with dozens of Indian tribes identified. The condition of this map is very good with a few minor foxing spots and light water stains. Please note slight border on bottom right, as issued, folding in a geography.
